This webinar set out the essential principles of crime prevention, with Mark O’Callaghan, a seasoned crime prevention expert, walking through the ten core principles that help reduce crime and enhance community safety.
With over thirty years of experience in the Metropolitan Police Service, Mark has been at the forefront of designing out crime strategies. He has worked extensively with architects, social housing teams and local authorities to embed crime prevention measures into the planning and delivery of the built environment.
During the session, Mark shared his expertise on how to design safer urban spaces, minimise opportunities for crime and implement strategies that address the root causes of anti-social behaviour.
The session then explored how well-considered external works design and integrated infrastructure solutions can support architects and specifiers in creating safe, functional spaces that reduce opportunities for crime and anti-social behaviour.

Mark joined the Police Crime Prevention Academy (PCPA) in 2018, after serving for over three decades in the Metropolitan Police. Specialising in crime prevention and designing out crime, Mark has worked alongside local authorities and neighbourhood teams to tackle crime and improve public safety. His extensive experience in problem-solving and crime reduction strategies makes him a leading voice in the field.
Mark holds an honours degree in Law from Liverpool University and qualifications in both training and workplace assessment. He plays a key role in the development and delivery of accredited crime prevention, problem solving and designing out crime training for professionals across various sectors.
