The Wilson Health Centre, Cheltenham
Unveiled to the public in 2022, The Wilson Health Centre is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art surgery in Cheltenham, providing a new home to long established GP practices Berkeley Place, Royal Crescent and Prestbury Park. 40 NHS medical professionals are based at the surgery, including GP’s, nurses, midwives, clinical pharmacists and health assistants, offering a diverse range of healthcare services to patients.
The Main Contractors for this new-build project were B+K Building Services, part of leading development group, Bowmer & Kirkland. urbanspec was specified by B+K to provide The Wilsons Health Centre with a bespoke external storage facility that could be utilised to provide multi-purpose storage capabilities.
The design flexibility of the urbanspec H-Series External Storage Building enabled urbanspec to meet the bespoke requirements of this project with a pre-engineered solution, utilising internal walls to divide the storage building’s layout into 5 separate stores; all with individual external access and paired with respective signage to communicate intent.
Prioritising functionality, the urbanspec H-Series provides The Wilsons Health Centre with a specific store for dental waste in order to avoid contamination, a storage facility for liquid nitrogen canisters to ensure safety, as well as a store for both recyclable and general waste. The incorporation of a bike store into the design of the storage building provides staff with sheltered bike parking and secure storage for up to 12 individual bikes.
ForestPanel TG cladding provides design coordination with timber cladding elements on the building façade. In order to enable constant ease of use for the surgery, in addition to restricting disruptions to patient services, the urbanspec H-Series was installed in an adjacent position to the building in the corner of the site’s car park.
