East Ham Town Hall Annexe, London
Located on Barking Road in the London Borough of Newham, East Ham Town Hall Annexe forms part of The Didsbury Phase 2 development, transforming the original 1939 council building into 37 contemporary apartments.
The scheme retains its distinctive Art Deco detailing while adding two new floors to create a mix of one, two and three-bedroom homes, most with private outdoor space and access to communal gardens shared with The Didsbury development next door.
East Ham is one of Newham’s most diverse and well-connected neighbourhoods, with excellent transport links via East Ham Underground Station and The Greenway cycle route to Stratford. The area also benefits from a wide range of local amenities including East Ham Leisure Centre, East Ham Library and the nearby East Ham Nature Reserve.

The redevelopment included additional security enhancements and the secure, gated access cycle storage unit was an essential part of the scope. The urbanspec HC Series cycle store provides secure, external storage for 68 cycles. The store is constructed from hot-dip galvanised steel with LPS 1175 SR2-rated 358 security mesh cladding and a lockable hinged door. An optional sedum green roof was specified for the cycle store to enhance biodiversity and visual integration within the landscaped setting. The cycle store was manufactured to project specific requirements, including an integrated increased-height section to suit the site layout.
The installation supports the development’s sustainable transport and environmental objectives, providing residents with practical, high-security facilities that complement the architectural character of the site.
urbanspec are proud to contribute to the regeneration of this historic building, creating infrastructure that aligns with Newham’s vision for greener, better-connected communities.
